Still recovering...

Friday night was a little rough for Mia. The swelling had gotten so bad by Friday that Mia was unable to open her eye,  she didn't open the left eye either because then it put pressure on her right eye.  So the days were a little rough for her Friday and Saturday. She couldn't really see so couldn't do much of anything. Mia shows us all her strength on a daily basis, as the rest of us would've been complaining that we couldn't do anything and we hurt etc.. but not Mia. Today (Sunday) she has been able to open her eyes a little bit.  We woke up at 6 am with no power, due to this beautiful (not) spring snow/ ice storm. The power was back on at around 10:30. We were very thankful it came back on because the house was getting chilly.  The kids all played Lego's for hours even after the power came back on, which was great!

Recovery

We met with the Dr who preformed the surgery. It was indeed acute appendicitis. Everything went well, she'll be in recovery for about an hour.

Post-op

It's been 4 days since surgery and Mia has  doing better every day. The swelling had been coming down and the bruising has been decreasing as well.

What has been tough for her has been her mouth. That has been the main source of pain. Eating any food and even drinking at times has been painful. We're not sure what caused it but we think it may have something to do with the breathing tube they put in during surgery. They mentioned it could give her a raspy voice and feel scratchy for a few days. We never imagined she would have to go thru this.

Hopefully the Dr can shed some light to all this at her check up. Should have been Monday but we never got a confirmation.

Home

We are finally home after a quick stop at Culver's for some ice cream, Target and then some goodies at Michaels. Mia slept most the way home. Feeling OK so far compared to her last surgery. Now it's time for pj's, a little post op cleanup and then bedtime. She is pretty tired after the day she had.

We love you Mia. ♡♡

Heading home

When Mia hears what she has to do to go home, she is on a mission. Where heading home now so Mia  can get some rest.

Recovery

Mia is in her room recovering. Swelling right now is pretty big and will probably get bigger before it starts getting smaller. Right now she is eating some applesauce and crackers. Hopefully she can keep eating and drinking then we'll be heading home tonight.

Recovery

Mia is finally in recovery. The Dr talked to us and said everything went as planned. They did injections around her eyebrow and eyelid. At this point her eye is swollen shut but this is normal and should start getting smaller within the week.

Brandy just went back to be with her when she wakes up. Addy, Karen, Momo and I are waiting to see her when she is moved to her room.

Recovery

After a long day yesterday, Mia sleep good thru the night. First thing she wanted when she wrote up was a bath to get her hair cleaned. After a couple times yesterday of trying to over do it, she got dizzy and felt sick to her stomach. She is slowly moving around taking it easy so far. It's so nice to she her smiling and awake today.

Today's plan is to take it easy and relax. She loves crafts and is working on a scrapbook she got from Aunt Binner.

Post op - Day 3

Mia has been doing very well after a much deserved relaxing weekend. She has been very busy making necklaces and braclets for us & her kitty. Last nite she took off her bandage and her forehead looked good. It was still swollen from the injections but you couldn't tell were the injections were located. Mia was so excited that she pulled it off and it didn't hurt at all.

Home

It has been a long day for our little princess Mia. She is so amazing. From waking up very early this morning to having a plan for the anesthia to recovery. Every step of the way Mia has been strong and positive. We are finally home were she can rest & relax for the weekend. She should be getting her bandaid off her forehead Sunday night. We will see then how it is heeling. After that it will be a few months before we meet back with the doctors so that can see any changes via an ultrasound. Until then, Mia can enjoy some of her favorite summer activities like swimming, playing outside on the swing set and riding her bike.

We love you princess!!

Recovery

Just talked with the doctor, everything went well and we are waiting for Mia to get into recovery so we can see her. Mia did very well with the going to sleep part, hopefully she will come out of it ok.

Recovering

Its been a long day for my little princess. Mia is out of surgery and in her room now. The doctors said they were able to get the areas they wanted to. Her forehead was the main concern with the injections. The doctor had to get to the outer layer of her skull to help minimize any swelling or pressure the malformation would cause.Thankfully all of this was done with tinny needles, no scalpel. I was able to talk to her again, it was sooo good to hear her voice.

Mia is doing her best to get some rest. Unfortunately every time she eats or drinks, she starts throwing up. Hopefully that will not last to long. I remember her last surgery and it took a long time for Mia to be able to keep anything down. I'm still not sure if they will be coming home tonite or not. I'm hoping they do because I miss them very much.

Road to recovery

Mia did pretty good last nite. She was getting cold from all the Popsicle's and ice cream so I put a few blankets to keep her warm. Mia fell asleep around 9 last nite and only got up this morning to take her medicine around 5, which didn't go to well. Apparently it doesn't taste the best, but if you mix a little strawberry quik, that helps out alot. After that she sleep till 8 this morning when her little sister woke her up. Mia did have a tough morning with her stomach not feeling well to eat anything so she wasn't able to take more medicine. Alittle cheesy mash potatoes and mac-n-cheese later, Mia's stomach was in much better shape for her much needed medicine.

In Mias Hospital room

Well it's been a long day but we finally made it to the room . What a room it is very nice they have added a new wing here at Children's hospital and this room is like a hotel room compared to the PICU rooms we are used to . It has its own bathroom BONUS for all, very open spacious and room for guests it even has a very nice window view. The room has 2 flat screen TV's, rocking chair and a couch that turns into a bed . I would have to say the best amenity is the PS3!!! I knew I should have brought Rock Band with us.

Mia has been doing very well. Before we took her down pre-opt, they give Mia some Versaid (to relax and be calm before surgery) but she only ended up taking about 1/3 of the dose because it tastes bitter. Which actually turned out to be good because she wasn't the monster that she is when she has come out of surgery as she has been before. She was in a little pain right after she got into recovery so they gave her a little bit of morphine. After we got into the room, Mia wanted to try to go potty but she ended up throwing up. I'm surprised she was able to keep it down that long, since she hasn't ate anything after 8:30 last nite. Right now she is resting comfortably. We will try to update this again later, until then here is a photo of Mia getting some much needed rest.

Recovery - part 2

After a few hours of sleeping, our little princess woke up. Mia was crying that it hurt and she wanted it off, referring to her new "hat". We were trying to get her to roll over onto her left side so her right side wouldn't swell up but Mia didn't want anything to do with that. Alittle bit later she had to go to the bathroom so I carried her there as Brandy brought along her IV trolley. Once we got back to our room, Mia was ok with laying on her left side. It didn't take long when Mia was asking for some food. We gave her the options of juice, Popsicle or some jello because she could eat some soft food. That led to "how 'bout a pancake, cause they're soft daddy?" Well, we are not pancake stage yet so she opted for a blue popsicle. Now Mia and Brandy are lying down together. So far, things are going pretty well for everything Mia has gone thru today. We should get to talk to the doctor tomorrow so we'll have some more information about how she's progressing and when we might be able to bring Mia home.
