Getting better

It's been a week since Mia had surgery. She is doing much better after the three days following surgery. The swelling had finally started to go down. Plus the bruising is clearing up but still colorful.

We kept her home from school all last week to give her the best chance of a quick recovery. Today will be her first day back. I know she is pretty excited to get back to she her friends and teacher. Plus tonight will be her first night back to dance practice as well. I know she misses that too.

Mia is very lucky to have so much support from our family and friends. We are so grateful for that. Thank you to everyone caring so much for our princess Mia!

Post op - day 2

Today has been a tough day for Mia. She has been in some pain this morning. So it's been frozen peas and some motrin. Mia said she didn't sleep good last night because "daddy snored loud". Oops, sorry princess.

It's been a rough day for me as well since I had to go back to work today and cannot hold her or tell her it's going to be OK. Thankfully Momo came over for alittle bit so Brandy could go get some pain meds for her.

1st day home

Mia had a pretty laid back 1st day home. We spent most of the day creating her scarp book. Between Mia's creativity and my picture printing ability, she got alot done.

We went to Edwards for lunch... Which didn't workout so well. We could not believe how many people were there today. Long lines, no parking... We must have missed the memo. So Mia chose Panera instead and we had a wonderful lunch.

Mia has been very inquisitive this time. Asking about what the Dr did and why her forehead/cheek looks the way it does. I'm glad that she is asking, she seems to be more confident or comfortable with it all. Miss never ceases to surprise me with her strength.

Recovery

After a long day yesterday, Mia sleep good thru the night. First thing she wanted when she wrote up was a bath to get her hair cleaned. After a couple times yesterday of trying to over do it, she got dizzy and felt sick to her stomach. She is slowly moving around taking it easy so far. It's so nice to she her smiling and awake today.

Today's plan is to take it easy and relax. She loves crafts and is working on a scrapbook she got from Aunt Binner.

Homeward bound

Is been a long day and we are finally on our journey home. Mia is nestled in her seat and resting with her many animals and blankets. This was her first surgery that they put a nauseas patch to help her from throwing up from the anesthesia. Worked pretty good but it has made her very tired, which is good cause she has been thru allot. Looking towards a calm evening.

Post op

Mia seemed alittle scared when she woke up as I came into recovery room. I told her I was there and a few tears flowed from her eye.

This is probably the most emotional surgery for me to go thru with her. I think because she is getting older and more aware of what is happening. She has questions here and there, which I love but it's the answers I don't have I worry about.

For right now you she is in alittle pain with all the injections she has on her forehead, cheek and eye brow. Plus the fun tube they always put in your airway during surgery. Mia opens her eyes from time to time.... Get some rest my princess!

Finished surgery

Just got word that surgery has finished and the Dr will be out to see us in 30 minutes. Glad to hear she is done but more waiting.

We've let Mia choose who she wants to come back into recovery since only one person gets to come back. This surgery she chose me so I'm really anxious to get to be with her.

Surgery

Mia is in surgery now. Right before we were saying goodbye she started get really nervous and telling me what she was scared about. Her concerns were the iv and having her blood taken. I tried to console her and explain how that she would be asleep for all of it but when she wakes up she will have the iv in her hand. Mia started tearing up alittle but after and hug and kiss she was ready.

Now we get to sit and wait... We always dread this part.

Pre-op #7

Mia is alittle nervous this morning. We've already met the Dr and going thru all the forms for surgery. Mia is very up beat and all smiles thou. It's still amazing how strong she is with going thru all of this.

Surgery & school

Just got the call today... September 15 is the date. They will be doing more injections to Mia's forehead. She is alittle nervous about it and upset that she is going to miss a day or two of school.

School is going well, this is her third week of 4th grade. Mia is pretty excited about it so far. One of her favorite things is reading. At bed time she will read until she falls asleep... Doesn't help when we forget to go into her room and remind her she has read for 30 minutes.

Check up

It has been some time since I've posted but even longer since we have been to the Dr. More than three years have passed since Mia's last surgery. Today we are meeting the Dr's for a check up. The roof of her mouth is the main reason we came. Over the past few weeks she has said it hurts when she eats from time to time. At this point the doctors are saying her mouth looks OK and to setup another check up in 6 months.

Mia's forehead and check are showing signs of fluid and swelling. They would like to do another round of injections to help keep the swelling down. They are going to call us this week to schedule the surgery.
